The purpose of this blog is: For staff and volunteers to record what is happening and who has seen what. For lookers to post a record of their livestock checks. To act as a formal record of livestock wellbeing and welfare checks. For lookers to access up-to-date information on livestock and site status, and the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust.

Checked the cattle yesterday, the Ashley Meadows pair were sat in the middle of the meadow happily relaxing. The Western Fen 3 were all sat by the gate which was handy, 1 stood up when they saw me. All looked well. As I walked to the viewing screens I could then see 2 walking towards the south of the fen.

All looking good in both Enclosures. Both pumps working. Cattle grazing contentedly.
Western Fen, spread out over centre and western side. One came over. Others just looked.
Ashley Meadow, both on North Eastern side, ambled towards me as I went in. One came right up which saved walking. Wet under foot, but not as bad as it has been.
All the cattle tested negative at the follow up TB test which is great. The grazing team will be taking all the cattle off soon, no date yet though.

Went for a stroll up to Ashley Meadows and the Western Fen. I wasn't expecting to see the cows, as I thought that they were leaving today, after the TB test for those in Western Fen.
Anyway, they were all present!
Ashley Meadow.
About 75 yards up in the centre. Eating and OK.
Western Fen.
All three about 150 yards up, towards the western side. Eating, then looking over to me at the gate. Slowly moved towards me, then a bit of a rush over. All three looking clean and healthy.
My hope, given that the TB test was supposed to be today, is that they are all OK and tested negative?
Any updates, please?
Got the western fen cows into the corral to keep them used to it ahead of the TB read tomorrow. One was quite excitable, but probably because of the bucket of cow nuts.
All well and looking good.
Western fen cows had the initial tb test injection, all went well and were put back into the fen.
